104- Here Comes the Sun

You have heard me talk about this podcast before and you probably will again a few hundred times more…..this week one of those lesser known but fascinating points in history. This weeks its all about Sex Sun and Assassinations as we look at   Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. He replaced the traditional head of the Roman pantheon, Jupiter, with a lesser god, Deus Sol Invictus, and forced leading members of Rome’s government to participate in religious rites celebrating this deity, which he personally led. Elagabalus married as many as five times, lavished favors on courtiers popularly assumed to have been his homosexual lovers, and was reported to have prostituted himself in the imperial palace. ” Imagine what the Neocons would do with that. Listen in over at the History of Rome Podcast..104- Here Comes the Sun.

As you can find out from watching the Good Eats episode on Eggs Benedict the venerable Thomas’ English Muffin is not really English (it was invented in NYC) and is a closer relative of the  crumpet than the muffin clan….but all that aside….Seems the company that now owns the brand is trying very hard to keep what must be one of the last great baking secrets from going walk about in the industry. As the NY Times reports in “A Man With Muffin Secrets, but No Way to Cash Them In.”  the secret is so valuable to the company they have gotten legal bars put on one of the few people who knows the full skinny of how the nooks and crannies get as they are.  A twisted tale of taste and toil.
