A toki pona Lesson Plan

Week 1

Day 1: Introduction to toki pona and its philosophy

  • Watch the 12 days of toki pona videos to learn about the basics of toki pona and its focus on simplicity and positivity
  • Go to the toki pona website and grab the vocabulary list, grammar rules, and cheat sheet. You can also find links to the official books on toki pona
  • Practice saying hello and introducing yourself in toki pona

Day 2: Basic vocabulary and grammar

  • Review the basic toki pona vocabulary list and practice using the words in simple sentences
  • Learn about the toki pona grammar rules, including word order and how to form possessives and negations
  • Practice constructing simple sentences using the vocabulary and grammar learned

Day 3: More advanced vocabulary and grammar

  • Review the intermediate toki pona vocabulary list and practice using the words in sentences
  • Learn about more advanced grammar concepts, including how to use modal particles and create compound words
  • Practice constructing more complex sentences using the vocabulary and grammar learned

Day 4: Reading and listening comprehension

  • Practice reading toki pona texts and listening to toki pona audio recordings to improve comprehension skills
  • Review any unfamiliar vocabulary or grammar concepts as needed

Day 5: Review and practice

  • Review all of the vocabulary and grammar learned so far and practice constructing sentences using the words and concepts learned
  • Practice reading and listening comprehension skills with a variety of toki pona texts and audio recordings

Week 2:

Day 6: Advanced vocabulary and grammar

  • Review the advanced toki pona vocabulary list and practice using the words in sentences
  • Learn about more advanced grammar concepts, such as how to use relative clauses and create verb tenses
  • Practice constructing even more complex sentences using the vocabulary and grammar learned

Day 7: Culture and usage

  • Learn about the culture and usage of toki pona, including the ways in which it is used in real-life situations and online communities
  • Practice using toki pona in conversation with other learners or native speakers

Day 8: Reading and listening comprehension

  • Continue to practice reading toki pona texts and listening to toki pona audio recordings to improve comprehension skills
  • Review any unfamiliar vocabulary or grammar concepts as needed

Day 9: Writing and speaking practice

  • Practice writing in toki pona using the vocabulary and grammar learned so far
  • Practice speaking toki pona by having conversations with other learners or native speakers

Day 10: Review and practice

  • Review all of the vocabulary and grammar learned so far and practice constructing sentences using the words and concepts learned
  • Practice reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills with a variety of toki pona texts, audio recordings, and conversation partners
