More from the Followers Of A Deity Of Love…..
What happens when you question some religious organizations too loudly? Some religions call it excommunication, another calls it disconnection, still others just out and kill you. The upshot is you are not just cut out of the religion, you are cut off from those people you might still love who stay connected to that religion. Some organizations will threaten to cast out any who have contact with those they toss out…so there is a fair amount of damage to families as well as friends and communities.
"Oh my that is not how true (fill in your fave religion that actually does this) behave." You do not say…..
"“I was raised in it, and believed in it, and was in church leadership roles,†he said. “But then when I was in graduate school, I began applying the same scientific methodology to church teaching. I could not see the justification of believing things when the evidence was so much in the other direction.â€
But he said he valued the church’s culture and wanted to stay a member."
How did the religious organization he was raised in react to his questioning?
Was there Love and Compassion involved? Lets listen in….
“They said that they felt I was a spy and a wolf in sheep’s clothing,†Mr. Twede said. “They said that they need to protect the flock from the Antichrist, from an apostate.â€
Nahooo…No you didn…t. But that was just harsh words , maybe a misunderstanding between the questioner and the church leaders….maybe…
"They handed him a brief letter signed by the stake president, Allan T. Pratt, which said that “because you are reported to have been in apostasy,†they were convening a “disciplinary council†that could excommunicate him. They had spelled his name wrong."
They even spelled his name wrong. What is it with organized religions and bad dictation skills?Â
Then there are the folks who say this was all a case of bad timing, that criticizing Romney was the straw that broke the back of Love and Compassion. Not so says church members….
"Scott Gordon, president of the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, an organization in Redding, Calif., that defends Mormon theology, said that he had forwarded materials posted by Mr. Twede to church officials in Salt Lake City.
“It has nothing to do with Romney,†Mr. Gordon said. “I know members very high up in the church who are voting for Obama.â€"
Ok, first off… Romney can not even count on the Mormon vote? Really? Some where in the Obama caravan for Lets Hope For No Change there is the merry sound of tittering bordering on a full outbreak of mirth.
Second off, if it was not the Romeny dig then what has upset the church so much, has sent it into bell, book and candle mode in order to defend the fabric of its faith…
“It’s about him posting on a blog that he was actively in there trying to subvert people’s beliefs in the L.D.S. church,†Mr. Gordon said, using the shorthand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A blog. A blog… a collection of words and comments hosted on a web server and readable by anyone who can type in the url or click on a link.
We have seen the face of evil and it is a BLOG….
"Hey Johnny what are you dressing up as this year for Halloween?"
"I am going to be a BLOG!"
"OH MY GOD NO THE KIDS THINK OF THE KIDS"
Yes folks, in the words of the sage one…Whoop There It Is. What do religions fear? Words. How do they deal with folks who say words they do not like? With Love? Compassion? In this case, and in many cases, no. With fear, fear so deep they would cut the author of those words off from their community, their friends and their family.
But is this really so hard to believe from an organized religion that touts such words in their holy book …
"1 Nephi 14:10 And he said unto me: Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God, and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth."
Sadly, historically, proven time and time again….nope.
