State Of The Podcasts

For the last couple of years I have been running several daily generated podcasts of historic broadcasts/recordings. A set of bash scripts does the day in day out generating the rss files from the  data files I craft up from source urls, many of which are hosted on the amazing Archive.org.

Once in a blue moon someone asks how many folks are listening to these things. Since I set them up mostly for myself and small group of comrades I have not delved into the stats. Today I took a peek and was pleasantly surprised. I had always figured maybe a dozen or two, a hundred at the very far end of possibility.  Here is a look at a daily log.

For April 14th 2016
——————————————————-
The Shep A Day Podcast    1082
The Hot Buttered Podcast      89
This Day In Funny                     64
History Now                              38
O For Orson                               19
Hard Boiled Adventures          17
Fib A Day Podcast                    15
Science Fiction Podcast            6
Over The Edge A Day                  4
Kids Shows Serialized                4

Only the ShepADay podcast has gotten more than a cursory run at advertising or pimping. Mostly I put these up, alert a few friends and maybe do a tweet or post on g+.

With Google Play adding podcast listings I might take a stab at listing these up and see if there is a jump in use.
