Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure
I figured out a way to get a stalled project off and running again…make a public declaration amid peers on a live stream. Yep. Thanks to +Adafruit Industries   for giving me the needed platform to call myself out.

What project? Well in part it is one I started back in May of last year (egged on by the Illuminati like guidance of +Trevor Blake  ) and in part it is in response to something +phillip torrone   talked about a few weeks ago, that being the gear and tech that we used early on that started us on the path to here and now.

The tl/dr of it is….a portable box you can have on you that is a local content wifi/bluetooth connectable network plus a multi broadcast transmitter (am/fm/etc) .
Use cases?
-Gatherings where you need to disseminate info, files, orders, up to date reports. Not just things like Occupy but things like Gamer Get Together,  Book Clubs, Gorilla Drive In Theaters, etc etc etc.
-Places and situations where communications are restricted (schools, open spaces, censor happy governments).
-Local Home Nets to store books, movies, music, etc and also a nice home broadcast setup to make  your own radio station (kids love doing this..as do many adults)

So the last May part is a project called Anyfesto, of which I started a website for (http://www.anyfesto.com/)  and even a github for the code I was monkeying with (https://github.com/tomhiggins/anyfesto) . The code part is most likely goingto be scrapped as it was a failed attempt at recrafting the #piratebox   project into something more to my needs. Thing is the new #librarybox  2.0 code base gets me closer to what I want out of the box. PiFM was a big part of it (http://www.icrobotics.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Turning_the_Raspberry_Pi_Into_an_FM_Transmitter ) but even that is quickly being replaced in my plans with and FM transmitter module by Adafruit (http://www.adafruit.com/product/1958). I may use both, time will tell.

The old gear part is going to be the hellafun part of this for me. I am going to make an AM transmitter out of an old Radio Shack 200-in-One kit and drive it  from a Raspbery Pi. I am also going to toy with using the GPIO of a PI to drive the blinkys on another 50-In-One kit I have, because….Blinky Lights.

So next week on the Show-And-Tell…if I get enough done and if I get in on the Hangout… I will have RPI  running PIFM and driving a 200-In-One based AM transmitter . My real goal here is working out a simple to use gui so that users on the local network can control what is being transmitted.

So yeah. simple steps and public accountability…I just might get this done yet.
