The concepts that helped form  the internet (all packets are equal, route around damage, etc etc) are much like the concepts that helped form the USofA (justice for all, equality, etc etc) in that we would be better served if we actually used them in practice. 
With net traffic, as with political policies, it will take the masses to make that happen…and the masses seems much happier being  amused than being engaged. 
And so it goes.
