In crisis there is creativity…. The Oatmeal does not failz. http://theoatmeal.com/sopa
For the next 24 hours I am blacking out TheOatmeal.com in protest of SOPA and PIPA. If one of these bills were to pass, this page is what many sites on the internet would look like. As someone who cre…
When confronted with PIPA and SOPA screens on wikipedia and minecraft my 9 year old learned a bit of what was going on…and he said to me "If the government wants to control the internet there will not be much internet for them to control."
Yep.
When you log into your Minecraft client today you will be greeted with a message titled "PIPA and SOPA….how about NOPA!" with links to the EFF's page on the issue. Hats off to the folks at Mojang…classy cool.

File under Share Global and Local…..The Khan Academy
"With a library of over 2,700 videos covering everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and 276 practice exercises, we're on a mission to help you learn what you want, when you want, at your own pace."
Yep, you read right. A fella with an idea, and a knack for raising funding, is on a quest to bring a complete K-12 education, and then some, to you where ever you might be so long as you have access to an uncensored internet connection. The Khan Academy can also be downloaded, you can have your very own hard drive stuffed with much of the awesomesauce that they offer…to keep…gratis…even if your local government decides to censor the internet connection in your area. What is not to like about this offer. Yes, you are correct, I have a copy and keep it somewhat updated. They are even working out ways to get DVDs of the whole shebang to those who want/need it.
Share an education…

File under Share Local….Dythr
It looks the project has stalled but the idea is easy enough to make work.
Every device you own that has WIFI uses something called an SSID to advertise the name of your device. Rather than setting your SSID to MyCoolPhone you can set it to be something like "Traffic Jam On I95 near the bridge" or "Who has pizza to spare" or "Offering FOSS" . Now anyone who can see your device can read your message. Conversely you can read the messages being shared by those around you simply by scanning the ssids of their devices.
The same can be done with Bluetooth device to some extent.
The end result is a very local message board system. Very local, very uncensored and since so many people have wifi device in their pocket very accessible.
It would be great if the app imagine by Dythr were made…some one nudge nudge….as it would make the process of sending and reading even easier.
