After a few months of ongoing person fun I have gotten back to working on the Chumby project(s). I started working on a version of Chumote ( http://tomhiggins.github.com/chumote/) that works with Zurk's Setup (https://sourceforge.net/projects/zurk/files/) such that when chumby.com goes away the devices can putter along.

The other idea I had was to use a chumby as a Piratebox (http://wiki.daviddarts.com/PirateBox) , think of it as an wifi ap loving data treasure trove to be found and used by the wandering energies around the location you plant it. First was to see if the device (I have an Infocast 3.5)  can even do AP mode….this helped (http://code.google.com/p/chumbydevboot/source/browse/trunk/chumbydevboot/start_chumby.sh?r=2) …so now the idea is to  work up a usb stick that will boot the device into a proper PIratebox setup.

On the most recent changes to the G+ app on tablet/mobile…to quote Honeydew…Its like a whole new game. After the previous changes being such a thud this round was amazing. The layout is 100% more useful on mobile and tablets, the feel of the apps are smoother, the way it includes notifications and the like is spot on…all in all it was a worthy 1 year birthday present to all the users….and what a year it has been.

FBies want to declare G+ a ghost town..which is alot like having some one sit in a race car and saying its too slow becuase they can not figure out how to work the gas pedal. Vrooom vroom

On FB I get cat pictures, beach videos and pleas for help farming….sure there are some great folks there and we still have some great threads…but lots and lots of noise. On G+ I get  this.   What ever else Google has made possible, things like bring me back to a decades younger me watching Cosmos on PBS….only now I get to experience this with my kids, we can even ask questions, make comments, contribute if we got the gumption up to do so… +Fraser Cain and his band as astronuts have taken the promise of the interubes and fused it with the joy of exploring the vast wonder of our universe that Sagan once served up….I think even Ed Murrow would have found something good to say about the use of this medium. Hats off to all who make this possible.

Fraser Cain started by wondering whether the view from a telescope could be streamed live into a Goo
