Closing The Knowledge Gap With Low Cost Tech
Long time readers of my posts will know about Anyfesto, a project to take low cost gear and make them local servers of all manner of goodness. Hearing this report on a local NPR station had me wondering about my most recent work on Anyfesto, that being a CHIP (+Next Thing Co. ) based install with a local version of WIkipedia and other educational sites as well as audio and video of an educational nature. (https://github.com/tomhiggins/anyfesto/blob/master/installCHIP) For well under 40$ an group of houses or apartments could have a low cost repository of knowledge without the need for broadband.
Sure, access to the internet is important but an option like this could well make a difference in many situations.
So the question now becomes one of finding the connections to get
these made and distributed where they are needed. If you have read this far and have ideas and/or connections please post them up
Thanks
About 5 million households with school-aged kids don’t have access to broadband internet.
Waves Around The World
Do you miss twiddling around the dials looking for a signal, any signal , in the hiss of noise? Do you fondly remember getting your news from the various news services around the globe?
This web site will make you happy.
On this page you can listen to and control a short-wave receiver located at the amateur radio club ETGD at the University of Twente. In contrast to other web-controlled receivers, this receiver can be tuned by multiple users simultaneously, thanks to the use of Software-Defined Radio.
