Long time readers of my posts will know about Anyfesto, a project to take low cost gear and make them local servers of all manner of goodness. Hearing this report on a local NPR station had me wondering about my most recent work on Anyfesto, that being a CHIP (+Next Thing Co. ) based install with a local version of WIkipedia and other educational sites as well as audio and video of an educational nature. (https://github.com/tomhiggins/anyfesto/blob/master/installCHIP) For well under 40$ an group of houses or apartments could have a low cost repository of knowledge without the need for broadband.
Sure, access to the internet is important but an option like this could well make a difference in many situations.
So the question now becomes one of finding the connections to get
these made and distributed where they are needed. If you have read this far and have ideas and/or connections please post them up
