Digging For Fire

Digging For Fire

Collecting blog and social media posts in one place, after the fact, is something I have been wanting to do for a while.  I have a WordPress install on  stable offsite hosting  and I have from time to time  grabbed bits and pieces of my posts from older places to hang there.  Today it got a little work done and all in all I am happy.

Since 2000 the methods of posting have been…well it is decidedly an archaeological  sign o' the times. …Blogger was first then I ran a Blosxom install on my own server then back to Blogger a few years latter. All of those posts got exported and imported with out much of a hitch. Then Social Media slouched towards Bethlehem and things got less simple. My FaceBook posts are mostly stored in  zip file  but an easy way to properly get those into a unified state is not  on my list of things I want to deal with. I recently found a WordPress script that imports GooglePlus posts from my public feed and that worked a charm, it bulk hoovered my old posts like a champ.  If it can keep the sync going so much the better.

Some links work, some do not. My Flickr account is long since closed so you will be spared the family photos. Posts to other sites, like Orkut and Wave and whatever the flavor of the day was, are not included.  It is fun to go back and see which sites I posted about are still alive and kicking.  It is also  fun to see when my posting tools started to include a spell checker.

For now though there is  a nice set of posts covering 2000 onward, all the way from the end of my bachelor days to marriage to kids to divorce to kids to whatever comes next.
